The Washington Redskins were hoping to go out on a high note against the San Francisco 49ers Sunday. What they got was a Joe Nedney 39-yard field goal as time expired to lose 27-24 at San Francisco. Washington lead 17-7 at halftime and looked like they were in control. Redskin quarterback Jason Campbell brought the Redskins back to a 24-24 tie with 1:09 remaining. The 49ers Shaun Hill connected with wide-outs Michael Robinson and Bryant Johnson on long bullets, before Nedney won it with his second field goal of the last stages of the game.

The loss improved San Francisco to 7-9 overall, but to 5-4 under new coach Mike Singletary. The Redskins fell to 8-8 after a promising 4-1 start to the season. If they could play consistent as they do in their wins as they do their losses, we would be talking about who Washington plays in the playoffs. They can not expect Clinton Portis to rush for 120 yards every game with no help. The defense has to play like they did last week against Philadelphia, (a 10-3 win).
